Identity Verification Service

All Company Directors and PSCs (Person of Significant Control) must verify their identity.

This is a legal requirement from 18^th November 2025 under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, to prevent people from using companies for illegal purposes. Identity Verification applies to anyone who is a current Director or PSC or who intends to incorporate a new UK company.

There are two ways to do this;

1 Through the GOV.UK One account and app

Visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/verify-your-identity-for-companies-house to apply via the app for your unique 11-digit code which you use to either verify an existing director’s ID, or that of a new Director or PSC, or a Director/PSC of a newly incorporated company.

You can only verify yourself online with Companies House if you have one of the following

UK Driving Licence (full or provisional)
or

biometric passport (All UK passports issued after 2006 are biometric)

As part of your new company formation with us, you then provide us with the code for a seamless incorporation.

2 Via an Authorised Corporate Service Provider

Company Services UK is a registered Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP). We can verify your identification. All you need to do is provide us with the ID documents as requested by us and we will complete the ID checks for you. We will then submit the confirmation of our verification to Companies House, who will then send the 11-digit personal code directly to you.

Why use an ACSP?

As ACSPs, the range of documentation we can use to verify your ID is broader than that which can be accepted via the Companies House app. This allows us to take into account individual circumstances such as not having a biometric passport, foreign nationals, UK nationals resident abroad and individuals not able or preferring not to use the government app.

We look at each individual application on a case-by-case basis and assess the best way to meet the verification requirements. We will do our utmost to verify your ID using whatever documentation is available. (In rare instances, if we are unable to complete your ID Verification, you will not be charged).

ID Verification fees will be dependent on the documents available (including translation if necessary) and the client’s personal situation.
